The Cultural Studies department offers these courses:

BA (Hons) Scottish Cultural Studies
This exciting and innovative course gives you the unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the varied and fascinating cultural identity of the Highlands and Islands as you live and study among its peoples and communities. The course will take an interdisciplinary approach to theory and research, drawing mainly from the humanities and social sciences. It will allow you to develop a multiplicity of skills which will prove to be of lifelong use, and to attain an unprecedented level of understanding of the region and its driving issues.

The UHI's newspaper says, 'BA (Hons) Culture Studies of the Highlands and Islands has won the Most Imaginative Use of Distance Learning in the inaugural Times Higher Awards, run by the Times Higher Education Supplement. MA Highlands and Islands Literature
This exciting new one year taught postgraduate course allows you to study the writers and literatures of the Highlands and Islands in the communities to whom they belong. This course is networked so you have the option of travelling the region and accessing your studies from any of the academic partners listed as offering it - and of studying with local writers.
Funding
The courses start on 29th January 2007. For 2007, the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) has made a number of bursaries available to assist with the costs of studying. To qualify, you need to satisfy SAAS’s Residence Eligibility conditions.
