Financial help for students at Orkney College
In all cases the student is responsible for his/her fees. However students may apply to the funding organisations detailed below for payment of fees.
All Higher education students

All Further Education Students
The following Access Funds are available to Further Education students.
FE Discretionary Fund
If you are experiencing genuine financial hardship, you may qualify for a payment from the Discretionary Fund.
FE Childcare Fund
This fund is for childcare only. The childcare must be registered or formal.
Application forms for these funds are available from Reception.
Further Education - Full Time
Fees
Students should apply to the Education Department of Orkney Islands Council who will pay their fees.
Bursaries
Students may apply to the Education Department of Orkney Islands Council for a bursary. Students who live outwith Kirkwall receive a larger bursary to cover travel. Students who live in the Isles receive a larger bursary to help cover accommodation costs if living away from home.
Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)
This is a weekly payment from worth up to £30 for students who are 16, 17 or 18. Students may apply to the Education Department of Orkney Islands Council for an EMA. Further information is available from Reception.

Further Education - Part Time
Fees
Employer – if students are in employment, their employer may be willing to sponsor them and make a contribution towards their fees.
Education Department, Orkney Islands Council – students may apply to the Education Department who may pay their fees.
Fee Waivers
If you are a part time student and you or your family are in receipt of income support, housing benefit, working tax credit, severe disablement allowance, disablity living allowance, incapacity benefit, carer’s allowance, or you are a registered jobseeker you may qualify for free part time learning. Fee waiver application forms are available from Reception.
Students who wish to re-sit
All courses - £30 per unit/module
Students who wish to return in subsequent years to re-sit any module/unit not achieved in previous years.
ILA SCOTLAND
ILA Scotland could give you up to £200 a year towards the cost of learning. It's a Scottish Executive sheme for anyone who earns £22,000 or less, or is on benefits. And it's not a loan.
