RYA Powerboat 2

RYA powerboat level 2 is designed for absolute beginners and existing boat users alike. It is recognised the world over and is usually required to allow certificate holders to hire powerboats up to 10m. It is also recognised by most insurance companies, leading to lower premiums.

This two day entry level course provides the skills and background knowledge to drive a powerboat and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence.

Courses are run from the Orkney College Maritime Department in Stromness and will take place during daylight hours in the coastal waters nearby.

The Maritime Department is equipped with a new 6m Humber Destroyer and teaches at a ratio of three candidates to one tutor.

Course Content

Launching and recovery, boat handling, securing to a buoy, anchoring, leaving and coming alongside, man overboard.

Ability after the course

Self-sufficient powerboater in the right coditions, aware of own limitations and those of craft.

Notes

You will be provided with a waterproof jacket and trousers but you may prefer to bring your own wet weather gear.
