Hospitality Services SVQ1

What is special about this course?

The SVQ Hospitality Services Level 4 course is a full-time course which includes units in preparing and cleaning areas for food and beverage service as well as basic food preparation and cooking. Students gain realistic work experience in the T CoZy café. This course would appeal to those who wish to progress to a practical part-time or full time job and/or supported employment.

Entry requirements

Potential students should be able to perform practical tasks.

Candidates must complete 10 units in total.  This comprises of:

  • Maintain a safe, hygienic, and secure working environment 
  • Work effectively as part of a hospitality team
  • Give customers a positive impression of yourself and your organisation

For candidates NOT working with food - you complete the above three mandatory units plus seven optional units.

For candidates WORKING with food – you complete the above three mandatory units, plus an additional mandatory unit as noted below and six optional units.

  • Maintain food safety when storing, holding and serving food.

    Full time

    If you are studying a full time Further Education course (NCs, NQs etc.) the College claims your fees from the Scottish Funding Council for students who are under 18 on the first day of the course. Students over the age of 18 on the first day of the course have to apply to Orkney Islands Council (OIC) for a tuition fees bursary.

    Part time

    Normally you are responsible for your course fees but if you are in receipt of certain benefits you may be eligible for a Part Time Course Fee Waiver. Not all part-time courses at Orkney College UHI are covered by the Fee Waiver Scheme and only certain benefits are acceptable as a basis for a Fee Waiver. Please contact the college to enquire.

    If you are eligible, you may be entitled to an ILA of up to £200 a year towards a course.
