What is special about this course?
This National Qualification in Health and Social Care is most suitable for school leavers and mature students who are interested in caring for adults in a health or social care setting.
This stimulating course provides students with the opportunity to study subjects related to health and social care at Higher level. You will enjoy a mixed course of theory and practice both in college and in a placement to suit your chosen specialism. Successful students will gain a qualification to work in care settings for adults.
The course is full time and commences in August. Students will be required to attend college 3 days a week and 2 days in a social care or health care placement.
Entry requirements
Two National 5's (or equivalent), one of which should preferably be English.
Other Non-traditional qualifications alongside relevant experience, will also be considered, in particular for students wishing to take the vocational route.
If you don't meet our entry requirements, your previous experience may still qualify you for this course. Mature students will be considered on merit. Please get in touch with us to discuss how suitable this course is for you.

The course is taught through a mixture of college and work placement experiences. You will attend placement two days a week and are required to complete a variety of projects and log books to demonstrate their ability to relate theory to practice.
The student will study a number of care focussed modules as well as achieving up to two highers (depending on their qualifications on entry). Students will also access a placement in a health and social care setting 2 days per week

There are many job and career opportunities in social care employment in public, private and voluntary agencies working with various service user groups.
This course can lead to entry on the following vocational courses HNC Social Services, SVQ 2 & 3 in social services and health care or clinical support. Please note students who wish to use this course to progress to a degree in social work for example, will be required to have or be working towards achieving 2 highers. Further guidance can be given regarding this on application.
