Agriculture (SVQ) SVQ2

What is special about this course?

This agricultural course aims to give entrants to the industry an understanding of animal and crop husbandry techniques that have been developed over many years. The course also aims to develop the skills required to handle the many technical and financial aspects of farming. This course is mainly for young people entering the industry but is also suitable for mature students. Successful students will gain a SVQ level 2 in Agriculture and a Modern Apprenticeship (MA) certificate at the end of year 1.

Entry requirements

Must have full-time employment on a farm with a named employer/supervisor. All applicants should be fit and healthy.

All applicants will be interviewed to ascertain suitability for the course.

Applicants should have Core Skills at Intermediate 1 or National 4 level.

Equipment

The student will be expected to provide a pair of waterproof boots, a pair of work boots with steel toe caps, waterproof clothing, work clothing, and gloves.

  • Block release

Vocational work based qualification with attendance to block release periods at UHI Orkney for face to face learning in the classroom and on farm visits.

What can I do on completion of my course?

Progression to SVQ 3 Agriculture - Livestock or Mixed Farming at SCQF6 or to the NC Agriculture at SCQF6.

Career in Agriculture or other land based sector.
