Young Bakers Showcase Skills at Bake Off Experience

A group of youngsters were put through their paces earlier today when they took part in the Bake Off Experience course at Orkney College UHI.

The day started off with the budding bakers (working in pairs)  having a go at making a twisted white bread. The quality of the bread was great, especially when some of the bakers had never tried making bread before today.

Once the tables were cleaned it was time to start working on the cakes that were going to be each pairing's showstoppers. It was hard for all involved not to sneak a piece of cake or a sweetie being used to decorate the cakes with!

To end the day there was the technical challenge, jam tarts!

They were ready just in time for parents to have a taste and then decide which pair of bakers had made the best jam tarts. The winners of the technical challenge were Megan Waterson and Sasha Ritch.

Course tutor Daniel Laud said:

"Overall I think today went really well with everyone having a great time and a laugh whilst trying out some baking. There were certainly several future star bakers in the making here today. The children did really well in following the recipes and producing high quality baking, which is even more impressive when some had hardly ever baked before today."
