Saint Andrew's Society of the State of New York Scholarships

The Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland is again administering this long-standing scheme for the selection of recent graduates from this side of the Atlantic to benefit from a Scholarship to be awarded by the St Andrew’s Society of the State of New York.

As previously, just two one-year Scholarships will be available for postgraduate study in the USA (usually at masters’ level).  However,  this year the Society has increased their value to $35,000 each.

Interviews will be held towards the end of April with notification to successful and unsuccessful candidates within two weeks thereafter.  At the interviews, the Selection Committee will choose the two successful nominees plus a reserve. The reserve will only be offered one of the scholarships if either of the first choice nominees is unable to take up the award.

Please note that previously a number of worthy candidates have been placed in difficulties because they have applied to only one US University and then failed to gain a place.  And, some US universities can be very slow in making decisions.  Please urge potential candidates, wishing to study in the US, to “spread their bets” by applying to several universities.

Finally, we note that, the St Andrews Scholarship grant is insufficient to fund all the costs of a year’s study in the US, so please  check the following website: www.fundingusstudy.com as a guide to other sources of funding.
