Who can graduate?

You become eligible to graduate when you’ve successfully finished your course and your award has been confirmed by the exam board, provided you've also cleared any outstanding fees.

Once the exam board confirms your success, we will email your official graduation invitation to the personal address on your student record. (Don't forget to ensure this is up to date). Invitations will be sent in late September and include details on how to register. We’ll also post an update on our website and socials once these have been sent out — if you don’t see your email invitation then, please check your junk folder. If it's not there, drop us a line at orkneygraduation@uhi.ac.uk

Outstanding fees

To join the Graduation Ceremony, please make sure any outstanding fees are cleared. If payments are made less than six weeks before the ceremony, we unfortunately can’t guarantee your name will appear in the programme, press or graduate lists — or that we’ll be able to reserve your place. To make a payment, call 01856 886459 or email salesinvoices@orkney.gov.uk

Do I have to attend the ceremony?

Not at all — attending the ceremony is optional. Your qualification is officially awarded by the Board of Examiners once you’ve successfully completed your course. The ceremony is simply a chance to come together and celebrate your achievement.

If you can’t make it, or prefer not to attend, you’ll still graduate in absentia and your certificate will be posted to you. But if you can attend, it’s a special moment to mark your hard work and share the achievement with family, friends and classmates.

Certificates and scrolls

Your official certificate will be posted directly to your home address by the awarding body for your course.

If you attend in person, you will also be presented with an official UHI scroll tube at the Graduation Ceremony — perfect for keeping your certificate safe. Scroll tubes unfortunately are not available for students graduating in absentia.

For any certificate queries, please contact the Student Records Office at sro@uhi.ac.uk
