NC Mechanical Engineering NC Level 6

Entry requirements

Mathematics and English National 5 at B or above, or Intermediate 2 at B or above, plus two other subjects National 5 B or above, preferably Physics.

Communication at Intermediate 2.

Equivalent qualifications or experience.

How will I study my course?

  • Full Time

Full time. Face to Face. Classroom. Engineering Workshops. Some online self study.

How long will my course last?

This course will help you develop a strong underpinning knowledge of a range of practical and theoretical Engineering topics.

You will have the opportunity to study different areas of the subject in detail which can guide your choices for later training or employment. This course has been developed through discussions with local engineering companies and employers who have helped to choose the modules included on this course.

Fees

Full time

If you are studying a full time Further Education course (NCs, NQs etc.) the College claims your fees from the Scottish Funding Council for students who are under 18 on the first day of the course. Students over the age of 18 on the first day of the course have to apply to Orkney Islands Council (OIC) for a tuition fees bursary.

Part time

Normally you are responsible for your course fees but if you are in receipt of certain benefits you may be eligible for a Part Time Course Fee Waiver. Not all part-time courses at Orkney College UHI are covered by the Fee Waiver Scheme and only certain benefits are acceptable as a basis for a Fee Waiver. Please contact the college to enquire.

If you are eligible, you may be entitled to an ILA of up to £200 a year towards a course.

What can I do on completion of my course?

On completing the NC in Mechanical Engineering students can progress on to the HNC Engineering Systems or similar.

Employment in the Engineering, Renewables, manufacturing or similar industries.
