SVQ Hairdressing SCQF Level 5

What is special about this course?

Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) recognise competence in job-related skills and are based on National Occupational Standards.

This SVQ covers areas such as shampooing, conditioning and treating the hair and scalp; setting, styling and dressing the hair; colouring and lightening hair; and perming and neutralising hair.

Entry requirements

Students can start without any prior qualifications depending on existing skills and experience. For the best chance of success, we recommend that students begin their studies with a good understanding of English and Communication skills.

Mandatory units include.

  • Consult, Assess, Plan and Prepare for Hair, Barbering, Beauty, Nails, Wellbeing and Holistic Services
  • Implement and Maintain Safe, Hygienic and Effective Working Practices
  • Shampoo, Condition and Treat the Hair and Scalp
  • Set, Style and Dress Hair
  • Colour and Lighten the Hair
  • Cut and Clipper Hair using Hairdressing Techniques

What can I do on completion of my course?

This SVQ is suitable for: individuals who are currently in employment as a junior stylist and who wish to obtain a formal qualification and individuals in self-employment building their portfolio of customers. Also, those who wish to obtain short, continuing professional development courses.

 

Studying further units, you can also gain the Hairdressing SVQ3 at SCQF6 or NC in Hairdressing at SCQF5.
