SVQ 3 in Healthcare Support (Clinical) SCQF Level 7

What is special about this course?

This award will allow a Clinical Healthcare Support Worker to demonstrate competence and knowledge while gaining recognition for their level of work.  With the support of an assessor, the candidate will collate examples of everyday tasks and build an e-portfolio of evidence.  Various assessment methods will be explored throughout the award with an emphasis on observation and reflection.

Entry requirements

Candidates should be in a job or placement where they are carrying out relevant tasks and responsibilities which allow them to gather the required evidence.

No prior qualifications are required to undertake this qualification, although experience in/knowledge of subject would be an advantage.

This qualification covers 3 mandatory areas:

1. Promoting effective communication in a healthcare environment

2. Maintaining health, safety and security practices within a health setting

3. Developing your practice through reflection and learning

Candidates must complete eight units in total: three mandatory units and five chosen by the candidate from a suite of options.

Fees

Full time

If you are studying a full time Further Education course (NCs, NQs etc.) the College claims your fees from the Scottish Funding Council for students who are under 18 on the first day of the course. Students over the age of 18 on the first day of the course have to apply to Orkney Islands Council (OIC) for a tuition fees bursary.

Part time

Normally you are responsible for your course fees but if you are in receipt of certain benefits you may be eligible for a Part Time Course Fee Waiver. Not all part-time courses at Orkney College UHI are covered by the Fee Waiver Scheme and only certain benefits are acceptable as a basis for a Fee Waiver. Please contact the college to enquire.

If you are eligible, you may be entitled to an ILA of up to £200 a year towards a course.

Funding

If studying the Modern Apprenticeship route, in most cases fees are covered.

If studying the SVQ route, there are funding options available which vary depending on your specific circumstances. Please contact your training provider for further information.
